| | Four years ago this month, my Crohn's Disease came out of remission. As a result, I did not return to college the following fall. I spent two years in and out of the hospital, doing sporadic temp work, feeling sick and sicker. After two years, I was a little stronger, so I returned to being a full time student and regular part-time employee, which is what I have done for the past two years.
During my two years off, God worked in my life in great ways, drawing me to His heart and teaching me many things.

I am not trying to say that God doesn't care about our circumstances. What I do want to say is that He works through our circumstances, whatever they are. He used Joseph's lengthy and undeserved prison time to teach him about management and leadership. He used Esther's presence in a (probably compulsory) queen contest to save His people from slaughter. He used both David's time of exile and David's time at the height of national popularity.
Looking back, I remember times when I felt useless, but now I know that none of my time has been wasted. In God's economy, there is no national debt. Everything always balances, even if it doesn't seem like it will at the time.
Have you ever gone through a period of time that felt like a waste? What did you learn through that time?
