2 Years On, 2 Years Off, 4 Years Blessed

Four years ago this month, my Crohn's Disease came out of remission. As a result, I did not return to college the following fall. I spent two years in and out of the hospital, doing sporadic temp work, feeling sick and sicker. After two years, I was a little stronger, so I returned to being a full time student and regular part-time employee, which is what I have done for the past two years.

During my two years off, God worked in my life in great ways, drawing me to His heart and teaching me many things.

During my two years on, God worked in my life in great ways, drawing me to His heart and teaching me many things.

I am not trying to say that God doesn't care about our circumstances. What I do want to say is that He works through our circumstances, whatever they are. He used Joseph's lengthy and undeserved prison time to teach him about management and leadership. He used Esther's presence in a (probably compulsory) queen contest to save His people from slaughter. He used both David's time of exile and David's time at the height of national popularity.

Looking back, I remember times when I felt useless, but now I know that none of my time has been wasted. In God's economy, there is no national debt. Everything always balances, even if it doesn't seem like it will at the time.

Have you ever gone through a period of time that felt like a waste? What did you learn through that time?

reading your testimony reassures me like nothing else. i'm so thankful you did not hold back with it. i needed to hear this tonight. i had not realized that you were actually  in remission, but and then back out of it for so long =/  i can't imagine how hard that must have been for you. you've been through quite a long haul there.

yes indeed.  i have just gone through a period of time -- my serious of miraculous failures where i wasn't getting the job i thought God had totally trained me for/wasn't able to move out of here just yet.   it just totally did not make sense b/c if anybody was meant to be w/ those kids and totaly was gung ho about it..it was me! i could barely wait for it...but i see now that having more time for Molly was so much more than all that i lost. --- she's been through a lot, and i will never regret how close we have been. so, that part i understand now, and the part where God used those failures to prepare me to be open to a homeless guy like Matt -- b/c even though it didnt work out, for a time period we were really very blessed.

i'll admit  there are still parts of this past year where i wonder "what the heck was that for!?" "I totally did what you asked Lord...even when i didn't want it at all...even when it was hard to obey at first"...so i'm still confused and still feeling like i'm in a holding pattern in terms of knowing what God is up to in certain areas of my life.

but like you, i trust that God is sovereign -- He'll work through these things like you said, like with joseph, esther, job, david, ruth, etc.

Oh, there are so many instances.  I don't think there's time or room to recount them all here.

BUT, thank you for this.  This is a good reminder to me to constantly be on the watch for God in my life.
